Abdullah Al Mamun’s birthday today
Today is the 69th birth anniversary of noted theatre personality Abdullah Al Mamun. He was not only a pioneer theatre activist in the country but also a playwright, director and TV and film actor. With a view to commemorating the late legendary artiste, a special programme titled ‘Phire Phire Dekhi Tare’ will be aired on Channel i at 6:00pm. The programme will be hosted by the President of International Theatre Institute Ramendu Mazumdar, while veteran theatre activist and performers Ataur Rahman, Keramat Mawla and Afroza Banu will take part in the discussion. The programme will be produced by Razu Alim. The guests of the programme will talk about various aspects of his life and works while a documentary on his life will also be screened. Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Mamun was born on July 13, 1942 in Jamalpur. In 1966, he joined BTV as programme producer and later performed the responsibility as the director of BTV before his retirement in 1991. As a film director, he was very successful. Under his direction, several heart touching movies like ‘Sareng Bou’, ‘Sokhi Tumi Kar’, ‘Dui Jibon’ and ‘Bihongo’ were released and they are still alive in the mind of the viewers. The drama personality produced more than one hundred TV plays. He also brought an epoch-making change in the theatre arena of the country by staging several renowned stage plays.
