Kites, fireworks fill Dhaka sky

Poush Sangkranti, also known as Shakrain, was celebrated in Old Dhaka on Saturday evening.Kite flying, partying, and cuisine marked the Bengali month Poush’s end. Laser light shows, fireworks, and lanterns illuminated winter twilight.

Shakrain is Old Dhaka’s traditional celebration. The streets of Sutrapur, Kaltabazar, Shakharibazar, Lalbagh, Faridabad, Tatibazar, Laxmibazar, Narinda, and Gendaria were busy all day. From morning, excited kids flew kites.

Kites of many colors, forms, and designs were flown on rooftops.Some brought loudspeakers to play music and challenged neighbors on rooftops to a kite fight.

SME fair in Dhaka starts on November 24

The 10th National SME Fair-2022 will be held from November 24 to December 3 to promote SME enterprises and diversify their markets.

350 stalls will be accessible at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka for SMEs to demonstrate their products and collect orders.

130 of the 325 participants are fashion-related. Participating industries include food and agro-processing, handicraft, leather, jute, ICT, light engineering, and plastics.

Dhaka’s “digital smart parking” system set to be introduced by the DNCC

The pilot project will begin in late November or early December on nine streets in Gulshan.

The Dhaka North City Corporation, with police help, plans to set up an app-based parking system in Gulshan to prevent people from parking randomly.

The app will show users empty parking spots and hourly charges that can be paid through the app. Authorities are coordinating with Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Niketan societies.

The Gulshan pilot project will launch at the end of November or the beginning of December.

After repeated failures to stop street vendors from taking over capital city streets, Dhaka South City Corporation will implement a new system to ease traffic congestion. DSCC will classify city streets into three categories – red, yellow and green.

Red zones are completely taboo for hawkers. However, they can set up their stalls along sidewalks and streets in yellow and green zones on conditions, depending on the time and day of the week.

Tk 5 per kilometer fare fixed for journeys on metro rail

A passenger will have to pay Tk100 to travel from Uttara to Kamalapur

The fare for the first metro rail service in the country is set at Tk 5 per kilometer. The minimum fare was set at Tk20, while the fare for the entire Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 route from Uttara to Motijheel was set at Tk100.
Road Transport And Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader revealed the information while inaugurating an information and exhibition centre at the Uttara depot on Tuesday.
