5 Bangladeshi films going to London’s Rainbow Film Festival

The 24th edition of the Rainbow International Film Festival is going to kick off in London, UK, on May 28 at the Genesis Cinema on Mile End Road, East London. The festival has been organised by the Rainbow Society.

Alongside screening 45 films from different countries across the world, five films from Bangladesh will be shown at the festival. These include: “Beauty Circus”, “Saatao”, “Damal”, “Paap Punyo” and “JK-1971”.

Popular actor, freedom fighter Farooque no more

Legendary Bangladeshi film actor, freedom fighter and ruling Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-17 Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooque) passed away while undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Monday. He was 74.

The actor died at about 10:00am Singapore local time.

Farooque dominated the silver screen during the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. He was born on August 18, 1948 in Dhaka.

Shobnom Bubly replied to Shakib Khan

Indian action thriller film titled Pathaan, starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, would be released in cinemas in the country on May 12.

‘The film received permission from Bangladesh Film Censor Board on Thursday. We are looking forward to releasing the film in cinemas across Bangladesh on May 12,’ said filmmaker Anonno Mamun on behalf of Action Cut Entertainment, the importer of Pathaan.

‘We have imported Pathaan following all necessary procedures and paid duty and VAT for importing the film. We hope that the film will be screened in local cinemas until Eid-ul-Azha,’ added Anonno Mamun.

Shakib Khan files extortion suit against film producer Rahmat Ullah

Actor Shakib Khan filed a case with a Dhaka court against film producer Rahmat Ullah on charge of demanding 1,00,000 Australian dollar as extortion.

Following a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib recorded Shakib’s statement after taking the charges against the producer into cognisance.

The magistrate also summoned Rahmat Ullah to appear before it on April 26, Dhaka Bar Association President Mizanur Rahman Mamun, also a lawyer for Sakib said.
