Programme launched with the theme “Guide children through love”
The traditional “Chapainawabganj Gambhira” is being used as an instrument to generate public awareness against family violence. NGO Proyash Manobik Unnayan Society began the five-day campaign with the theme, “Guide children through love” on Wednesday.
The programme was inaugurated at Tebunia Wasim Pathshala. The artistes of Chapainawabganj performed traditional Gambhira (folk songs) at the school premises. A discussion by the teachers and the organisers was held at the same venue.
“The children of our society often do not get a proper environment for their development due to family violence. This has to be dealt with. The family bond is decaying by the day, which hampers the children’s mental growth. We have to uphold the family unit for the sake of our future generation,” said Mohammad Hasib Hossain, executive director of Proyash.
“Through these programmes we are trying to generate public awareness on the issue in educational institutions to generate awareness among school children,” he added.
A similar programme was held at Pabna Town Hall premises on Wednesday evening. The artistes performed Gambhira (conversation of a grandfather and grandson) that focused on social injustice towards women and children within a family.
The programme was later held at Sarabaria High School premises of Atghoria upazila and Maniknagar High School premises in Ishwardi upazila and in different educational institutions in Chatmohar and Bhangura upazilas under the district.
