Ten students of mass communication and journalism department of Dhaka University on Monday were awarded ‘Professor Sitara Parvin Award’ for their outstanding academic feats in honours final examination, 2012. The vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, distributed cheques for the award money among the winners at Ramesh Chandra Majumdar Arts Auditorium of the university.
The awardees are Md Zahidul Islam Sarkar, Mehnaz Haque, Nur-e-Makbul, Md Jewell Mia, Sharmin Ahmed, Farjana Rashid Romana, Asma-ul-Husna, Mamun-or-Rashid, DM Tauhidul Alam and Tania Moon.
Arefin stressed the need for following honesty, efficiency and ideology of the late Professor Sitara Parvin who was a very popular and devoted teacher in the department.
Noted journalist Zakaria Seraji delivered ‘Professor Sitara Parvin memorial lecture’ on ‘Bela Sheshe Adhunikotabadi Sahitya’ in the programme, presided over by the department chairperson Akhtar Sultana.
Mass communication and journalism professor Sitara Parvin died in a tragic accident on June 23, 2005 in the United States. She was the daughter of country’s former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and wife of MCJ Professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali.
