At least ten people were injured as police foiled a procession brought out by Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal at Rajshahi University on Tuesday.
Police arrested five JCD activists in this connection.
Witnesses said about thirty JCD activists entered the university campus riding motorbike, violating the university’s ban
on any kind of political activities.
Law enforcers tried to stop the procession at university’s Kazla entrance at around 11:30am. At one point, police charged baton and fired rubber bullets, leaving ten injured.
Police arrested Mahfuz, Faijur Rahman Fayoz, Ihsan Haque, Atik Rahman and Rana in this connection, said Arafat Reza Ashique, JCD RU unit convener.
He also alleged that police attacked the JCD activists without any reason.
The injured JCD activists were Mosaddek Hossain, Sabbir Hossain, Tofael Tanmoy, Mahmudul Hasan, Golam Martoja and Jamilur Rahman.
They took treatment
at different private hospitals.
Among others, Shahbuddin, a reporter of Rajshahi local daily ‘Rajshahir Alo’ and a local vendor Abdul Bareq were injured too.
Police barred the JCD procession as they brought out motorcycle procession on the campus, said Ashit Kumar Ghosh Motihar police officer-in-charge.
RU proctor Tariqul Hasan told newsmen that police had stopped the procession as it had violated campus regulations.
