Ten people were killed and 27 injured in road accidents in Munshiganj, Habiganj, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria, and Narayanganj districts on Thursday night and Friday.
New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reported that four people including a member of the army was killed and 20 others wounded in a road mishap at Pakhi under Gajaria upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 35, of Bangladesh Army, Nilufa Akter, 45, Subrata Chakma, 42, and Abdul Karim, 65.
The police said the accident happened when two buses collided head-on near Pakhi at about 10:30am, leaving four passengers dead on the spot. The injured were admitted to local hospitals and Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All the deceased were passengers of a bus of S Alam Paribahan.
The drivers of the buses managed to slip away.
Our Habiganj correspondent said two people were killed in two road accidents in Madhapur and Sadar upazilas of the district.
The police said an unidentified man aged about 45 was killed when two trucks collided head-on near Alipur crossing of Madhapur upazila on Friday morning. The police said the deceased was the driver of one of the trucks.
In the other incident, Chabu Miah, 70, son of Chand Miah, died on the spot when a speeding truck hit him from behind near Sadar upazila headquarters at around 11:00am.
New Age Meherpur correspondent reported that a motorcyclist was killed on Thursday night when a speeding truck knocked his motorbike down at Bashbaria in Gangni upazila.
The deceased was Mohammad Shahiduz-zaman, 18, son of Bablu Miah.
The police seized the killer truck.
Our Narayanganj correspondent said a man was killed and three others were wounded in Charsayedpur area on the Dhaka-Munshiganj Highway at about 10:30am Friday. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The police said the accident took place when a speeding covered van knocked down a rickshaw and an auto-rickshaw, leaving one of the passengers dead on the spot.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent said a man of 60 was killed when a speeding truck ran over him near Satbarga on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Amrita Saha. The police failed to seize the killer truck.
New Age Chandpur correspondent reported that a motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured when their bike hit a roadside tree in Beltola area under Matlab upazila at around 2:00am on Friday. The deceased was identified as Mobarak Hossain, 26. The injured were admitted to the upazila health complex.
