The 100-day countdown to the first match of the ICC World Twenty20 began at the early hour on Friday with the simultaneous unveiling of countdown clocks in the three host cities of Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet. Concerts by popular local music groups and celebratory displays marked the occasion, which started at 10pm and continued until the zero hour. Representatives of the Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams, as well as the ICC and BCB officials, joined the fans for the programmes.
In Dhaka, the countdown programme was held at the South Plaza Gate of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue. Programmes were held simultaneously at Circuit House Circle, MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong and the Keane Bridge over the Surma River in Sylhet.
Sakib al Hasan represented the Tigers in Dhaka while Nasir Hossain and Sohag Gazi joined the celebration in Chittagong. Young opening batman Anamul Haque was present in Sylhet during the programme.
The first match of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 will pit the hosts against Afghanistan at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on March 16, 2014.
