Bangladesh Photographic Society has been an eventful platform to promote photography in the country since 1976. The society regularly organises monthly, yearly, national and international photography exhibitions and contests.
As part of its activities, the society has organised its 13th national photography exhibition and competition which began on October 24 at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.The exhibition showcases a total of 143 selected entries from among the gross submission of 2,630 photographs. Twelve photographers have also been awarded in different categories this year.
The first prize, which consists of Tk 100,000, a trophy and certificate, was given to KM Asad for his photograph Pray Time which captures Muslims while praying.
Photographer Pankaj Sikder has won the second prize for his beautiful capture of two fighting cranes over water body. Shahnewaz Khan has been awarded the third prize for his photograph titled Radiation of Dream.
Best Portrait, Best Nature and Best Creative awards have been conferred on Rayhan Chowdhury Bipul, Zakirul Mazed Konok and Sayeed Monjer Hussain respectively.
Other awards of the competition include three Honourable Mentions and three Jury Awards. This year, BPS honoured veteran female photographer Sayeeda Khanam with lifetime achievement award.
However, the exhibition appears to be worth visiting not for the awarded entries only; like any other national exhibition, the 13th BPS photography exhibition has presented a wide variety of works.
From beautiful captures of nature to depictions of people and culture are the subjects of the photographs. The exhibition will be open for all from 11am to 7pm till October 31.
