Due to globalization, more specifically due to booming of ICT, Bangladesh has already been connected with the outside world. Since the government’s goal is to make the country a digital one, building strong ICT infrastructure is must in this regard.
Banglalion Communications Ltd (BCL), the leading broadband wireless access (BWA) operator of the country has extended its cooperation towards the making of a digital Bangladesh by extending its network to the seven divisional headquarters across the country.
BCL had recently organised the launching ceremony of its network to the seven divisional cities at a city hotel.
President M Zillur Rahman inaugurated the Baglalion wimax internet service while Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan and Industry Minister Dilip Barua spoke as the special guests at the Launching ceremony. Banglalion Communication Ltd Chairman Major (retd) Abdul Mannan gave the welcome speech while Chief Executive Officer Khaled Shams gave the vote of thanks.
President Zillur Rahman called for extending internet facilities at all corners of the country for making information and communication technology (ICT) as the prime tool of development.
He said, “ICT will be beneficiary in real sense when it can be utilized in fulfilling daily demands including agriculture, education, health and employment of mass peoples.”
Zillur Rahman said country’s majority populations don’t know how to use ICT in receiving various services as well as in creating employment opportunities. “Practical knowledge about proper use and implementation of ICT would have to be imparted to the people,” he added.
Referring to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s declared Vision-2021 to build an information technology based Bangladesh at the golden jubilee of the independence, the President said, “It’s our collective responsibility to implement the vision.”
BCL experts on the occasion pointed out the advantages of WiMAX as a broadband solution. They asserted it to be faster than any wireless solutions and it has a much greater bandwidth capacity and range.
This allows WiMAX to behave somewhat like cellular phone for data networks, with inherent high speed, wider bandwidth and highly secured connectivity.
