Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 1 gold worth about Tk 1 crore and arrested a passenger on Sunday. Sources at the airport said Shahidullah, 55, came to Dhaka from Dubai by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight in the morning. When he was trying to come out of the customs lounge through the green channel, customs officials challenged him at about 12:30 pm. They found the 21 gold bars weighing 1 kg after searching his body and bags. Shahidullah was handed over to police after a case was filed with Airport Police Station. In Chittagong, a man was arrested along with Indian currency worth rupees 2.5 crore at Shah Amanat International Airport here on Sunday. The arrested was identified as Mustafizur Rahman of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar. Being tipped-off, customs officials and investigation department of the airport followed Mustafizur after he got down from an Oman Airlines flight at about 5pm, said Joynab Begum, customs official of the airport. Later, the Indian currency was recovered from him while his bag was passing through the scanner, she said. A case was filed in this connection.
