At least two people were killed and five others injured, one critically, when a train hit a microbus at a level crossing under Jhaoil bridge in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj yesterday afternoon.
Bimol Chaki, officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) Station at Sirajganj, said the accident occurred as there was no rail gate at the level crossing.
The deceased were identified as Yousuf Ali, 30, of Bhola, and Kulsum, 16, of Noakhali sadar upazila.
All the deceased and injured were returning to Dhaka by the microbus after visiting their relatives in Sirajganj.
GRP and locals said the microbus, carrying seven passengers, was rammed by Dhaka bound inter-city train Chitra Express from Khulna while it was crossing the rail track at about 3:15pm.
The accident left Kulsum dead on the spot, injuring six others.
Locals immediately rushed the injured to Sirajganj General Hospital where Yousuf succumbed to his injuries.
On information, Kamarkhand police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
