Reckless driving caused the death of two persons, one of them a student, and injured another in two separate road accidents at Jatrabari and on Bijoy Sarani early Sunday.
One of the deceased was identified as Rajib Khor, 21, a third-year student of the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology in Hazaribagh.
Injured Nahid Hasan, 23, also a student of the college, is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The identity of the other decedent, who was killed in Jatrabari, could not be known.
The police, quoting onlookers, said that Rajib Khor died on the spot and his friend Nahid sustained serious injuries when their motorcycle hit a road divider first and then veered and rammed a roadside electric pole on Bijoy Sarani Link Road at around 3:30am. Rajib’s body was sent to the DMCH morgue for post-mortem examination.
Physicians at the DMCH said that the condition of Nahid Hasan, 20, son of Abbas Uddin, a resident of Thanapara in Kushtia, was critical.
In Jatrabari, an unidentified man was killed when a truck ran over him near Jatrabari kitchen market at around 4:30am.
