200 more BDR men hauled up in dists

Law enforcers yesterday arrested a total of 200 Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) men from seven districts in connection with eight sedition cases lodged with Sadar police stations in those districts relating to the BDR revolt in the areas on February 25 and 26.
Sources said that the BDR mutiny occurred simultaneously in 41 places including BDR headquarters and 27 bordering districts sparked off by angry border guards. Sources said around 1,000 BDR members from 40 sectors and battalions would be made accused in the cases.
Following information the police headquarters sent a letter to the home ministry seeking approval to file sedition cases. The home ministry had already given permission in this regard on April 26.
Officers-in-charge (OCs) of relevant police stations of 40 bordering areas including 27 districts like Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Khulna, Jessore, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Chapainababganj, Nowgaon, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Thankurgaon, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Brahmmanbaria, Feni, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrokona, Rangamati, Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Khagrachari, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Chittagong will file the cases with the courts against the accused BDR members soon, sources said.
As part of filing the 40 sedition cases, the officers-in-charge of the Sadar police stations of Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur filed seven sedition cases while one more sedition case was lodged with Phulbaria police station in Dinajpur district.
Law enforcers arrested 51 BDR men from Dinajpur district, 20 from Joypurhat, 25 from Thakurgaon, 22 from Panchagarh, 34 from Kurigram, 33 from Rangpur and 15 from Lalmonirhat in connection with the sedition cases.
Besides the cases, a sedition case was also lodged against over 200 BDR men with Thanchi police station in Bandarban district on Sunday in connection with the BDR revolt in the district. The law enforcers arrested 108 BDR men in connection with the case.With those, a total of 308 BDR men have so far been arrested in connection with the sedition cases filed outside Dhaka. 
The OC of Lalbagh police station in Dhaka earlier filed a sedition case against over 1,000 BDR men for their involvement in February 25 – 26 carnage inside the BDR headquarters at Peelkhana. Over 1400 BDR men have so far been arrested in connection with the case from different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)  produced 37 soldiers before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and sought a 10-day remand for them.
Of them, 30 soldiers were brought from the Dhaka Central Jail and the rest seven were produced before the court on Monday after the end of their five-day remand on the previous day. After hearing, the metropolitan magistrate, Mominul Hasan, remanded the 37 soldiers in the police custody for 5-day.
Meanwhile, a lawyer sought bail for a BDR soldier for the first time regarding the BDR carnage case.
Emdadul Haque Lal, the lawyer, submitted application of bail for sepoy Abdullah Al Mamun before the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on Monday after being denied bail by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
The judge, ANM Bashir Ullah, set May 18 for hearing the petition of Mamun. Mamun was produced before the court on March 12, six days into his arrest in the BDR mutiny case, said the lawyer.
Our Dinajpur Correspondent, AKRAM  TALUKDER, DINAJPUR  writes: At least 118 BDR men of four districts sued under sedition cases for their alleged involvement in the BDR mutiny on February 25 and 26 last were sent to jail today (Monday) after showing them arrested in the cases. Sources said that 20 BDR men from Phulbari 40 Battalion, 17 of Dinajpur 2 Battalion, 14 of Dinajpur Sector, 20 of Joypurhat 3 Battalion, 25 of Thakurgaon 20 Battalion and 22 BDR men of Panchagarh 25 Battalion were sent to jail after showing them arrested in the case.
Of them, 51 BDR men have been kept in Dinajpur Jail and 20 in Joypurhat jail, 25 in Thakurgaon and 22 in Panchagarh jail.
Police sources of said that Officer in-Charge (OC) of Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Joypurhat filed the sedition cases under 120B and 121/121(A) of the penal code on Sunday with the Judicial Magistrate’s Court bringing charges against the BDR men for revolting in the BDR sectors and its battalions.
According to the BDR sources the BDR men of Dinajpur Sector and four Battalions of Phulbari, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Joypurhat revolted coming out from the BDR barracks with arms from the BDR armouries creating panic in the districts on February 25 and 26 and fired bullets indiscriminately.
BDR sources said that the 118 BDR men of different battalions were shown arrest as court issued warrant of arrest for the BDR men today (Monday).
Earlier, the district administrations of Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Joypurhat beefed up security measures by deploying army, RAB and police personnel around the BDR sectors and battalions of the districts.
Besides, at least 42 BDR men under Dinajpur Sector had been sent to Peelkhana BDR Headquarters in Dhaka early last month for interrogation, according to the BDR sources.
BDR sources said that the 118 BDR men identified after examining the video footages of different television channels and newspapers snaps published in different local and national dailies.
Our Kurigram correspondent reports: A total of 34 revolt BDR men of 27 Rifles Battalion were arrested and sent to jail hajat on charges of sedition yesterday. More than four hundred police, RAB and army personnel led by the district Police Super arrested 34 BDR men.
According to police source, BDR soldiers on February 25 revolted in the Peelkhana. In this connection 34 BDR men of 27 Rifles revolted in Kurigram on February 26 and they brought out arms and ammunitions from the headquarters’ armoury. Later they fired 22 rounds of bullet and took the charge of 27 Rifles Battalion. The BDR men held the battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Sumon Kumar Barua, Deputy Commanding Officer Major Altaful Kabir and Officer (Operation) Major Kamal hostage and kept them in a room. Besides, Subeder Major of the headquarters Moysher Ali declared himself to be the Battalion Commander.
In this connection at 11.00 am on the day (May 11) Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir filed a case, approved by government, to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court.
After filing the case the court gave the order of arrest of the BDR men. In this connection police arrested the 34 BDR men and sent them to Kurigram prison. In the case, three army personnel have been fixed as the witness of the case.
In this connection, the Police Super Mahabubur Rahman said the case approved by government was filed against the BDR rebels.
The arrested are: Subeder Major Moysher Ali, Naek Subeder Kibria Maynur, Subeder Fakhruddin Hasan, Habilders Abed Hasan, Faruk Hossen, Hasen Ali, Mosharaf Hossen, Motafijur Rahman, Kawsar Hossen, Abdul Hannan, Moynul Islam and Jalal Mia, Lance Naeks Bahadur Ali, Aminul Islam, Akkas Ali and Mamunul Islam, solders Monsur Hossen, Jobaysul Haque, Feroj Alom, Mokhtar Uddin, Dalim Ali, Reaj Uddin, Al-Amin, Hasanur Rahman, Faruk Hossen, Kawsaruzzaman, Repon Mia, Jakir Hossen, Tajul Islam, Shafiqul Haque, Billal Husain, Shirajul Hasan, Alamgir Hossen and Hash Kamal.
 Our Rangpur Correspondent adds: A total of 33 BDR men were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a sedition case relating to the BDR revolt in the district.
A district court of Dinajpur court sent them to jail after showing them arrested in the case when they were produced before the court.
OC of Rangpur Sadar police station Abdur Rashid filed the sedition case against over one hundred BDR men. Later, they arrested the 33 BDR men from different barracks of BDR in Rangpur district.
Our Lalmonirhat Correspondent reports: Lalmonirhat sadar thana police arrested 15 BDR Jawan on Monday morning from 31 Rifles Battalion on charge of firing in connection with 25-26 February Peelkhana BDR carnage.
The arrested Jawan were Habilder Nizam Lance Nayek Asadul, Nayek Abul Kalam, Lance Nayek Tarlur, Shiphali, Nazmul, Asraful Huda, Nazrul, Habibul, Mohabbat Ali, Rokon Pronayan Chakma, Kamar Uddin. Abu Siddique, Zoynal and Nayek subeder Uruf Ali.
They were arrested in a seddition care. Later they were produced before the court. But the court refused their bail and sent them to the jail.
