At least 200 top terrorists, who were enlarged on bail after the general elections, are now indulging in various sorts of criminal activities leading to deterioration of law and order across the country.
Most of them are reportedly maintaining link with some influential leaders of the ruling party and law enforcing agencies, informed sources said.
Nearly 50,000 terrorists were put behind the bar during the regime of the caretaker government. Many of them managed to secure their release from jail on bail. After securing release they went back to their sordid life, the sources added.
Harun Gazi, a contractor, was shot dead by some extortionists led by Sajib at the city’s Nabinbagh Balurmat area under Kilgaon police station on January 1 as he refused to pay toll.
Police arrested Sajib, a teenager who heads a terrorist group comprising 20 to 25 members. They regularly realise toll from businessmen, contractors and members of the public , it is alleged.
Sajib was arrested nearly one year ago and he was freed from jail on bail a few days ago. Immediately after his release from jail ,Sajib started intimidating people for toll.
Leather Liton, another notorious criminal of Hazaribagh area, came out of jail on January 31. He is the main accused in the killing of the film star Shohel Chowdhury and Dr Milon in the Dhanmondi area.
Zakir, an infamous terrorist of Chittagong, was released from jail on bail a few days ago. He was allegedly involved in the killing of eight persons in the port city several years ago.
As many as 1,000 notorious criminals now in jail, are trying desperately to get bail from the High Court, according to court sources.
A high official of the police department said on condition of anonymity that a list of high profile terrorists, who are now free on bail, is being prepared to take them back to jail to keep the country’s law and order stable.
