Cricket Kids One and Kathalbagan Royals won their respective matches on the opening day of Polar Ice Cream Street Cricket Championship at the Dhanmondi cricket ground on Friday. Cricket Kids One defeated Street Boys by 78 runs while Kathalbagan Royals won by three wickets against Royal Champs in the day’s second match. Former captain and manager of the Bangladesh national team Shafiqul Huq Hira said the current opener of the Bangladesh national cricket team, Tamin Iqbal, first drew the attention of all at an under-13 cricket tournament held in 2002 at the same ground. Former opener and currently a cricket commentator Atahar Ali hoped that some talented players like Tamim and Shafiul would come up from this championship also and be able to play at the national level.
