Twenty-seven students will fight for a seat in the Dhaka University admission tests for first-year honours courses in the 2010-2011 academic session, with the tests scheduled to begin on October 29.
The battle has intensified this year as a total of 1,63,251 students applied for only 5,899 seats. This year, 29,222 applicants more than that of last year have applied, said university official sources.
The test for Ka unit (science faculty) will be held on November 5, Ga unit (business studies faculty) on November 26, Gha unit (transfer unit) on December 3 and Cha unit (fine arts faculty) on December 10.
On average, 27 students will be competing for each seat at the university, the university proctor said.
A total number of 41,746 students will fight for 1,561 seats in Ka unit. In Kha unit, 28,664 students will compete for 2,283 seats while 33,291 will fight for 930 seats in Ga unit and 4,444 students for 119 seats in Cha unit. The highest 55,106 students applied for Gha unit having only 1,006 seats.
On Thursday, the last date for downloading the admission form, the university vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, at a press briefing asked the admission seekers not to be panicked by any problems in downloading admission cards due to technical problem.
Admission seekers, who have downloaded their pay-in-slip by the deadline on October 14, were asked to deposit their money to the specified banks by October 18.
Meanwhile the university went into an eight-day vacation on Thursday on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
The offices, however, will remain closed on October 17 only, said university public relations officer Ashraf Ali Khan.
