Price monitoring teams on Saturday fined 28 businessmen Tk 2.04 lakh for making extra profit by selling essential commodities at prices higher than those fixed by the
government and for preparing food in unhygienic condition.
Two teams of the National Consumer Right Protection Directorate led the drives in Dhaka, Pabna, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Patuakhali, Rangpur and Chittagong, said a NCRPD press release.
Assistant director M Ibrahim Hossain and assistant director Rina Begum conducted the drives at Dhaka’s Shah Ali, Kallyanpur, Dhanmondi and Kalabagan bazar.
Representatives of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka City Corporation, Bangladesh Tariff Commission and magistrates of Dhaka district administration assisted the drive.
The NCRPD teams also distributed leaflets containing punishment and provisions for violating the Consumers’ Rights Protect ion Act.
