A weeklong painting exhibition titled ‘Women in Nature’ is going on at the Drik Gallery of Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
Exploring various women’s issues, the exhibition is a tribute to the late artist Rawjatun Zannat Champa who died in November 2008 and also to mark International Women’s Day.
Three Bangladeshi artists, who are former students of Charukala, and an Indian artist are the participants of the art show where a total of 38 paintings are on display. Two paintings by Rawjatun Zannat are also on display at the show.
Artist Mafruha Begum Beauty’s works are done in mixed medium of oil paint, sand and fabrics. These artworks depict the themes of Jibanananda Das‘s poems including Andhakar, Kuri Bachhar Pare, Abasarer Gaan. The 11 paintings are dominated by black and blue shades.
Kamrun Nahar’s 15 paintings are on display at the exhibition. The use of vibrant colours synchronised with bold drawing lines draw the attention of the viewers. Nahar’s semi-realistic works are done in watercolour.
Afroza Anjum’s series work titled ‘Venus’ explores oppression of women. The artworks show deprivation, isolation and miseries faced by women from the
prehistoric era to the present. A total of eight oil paintings included in her series present the oriental style of art.
Jayaraj’s works have not yet reached the exhibition. His paintings are expected to be put onj display on Monday, said the organisers.
Noted cultural personality Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest while eminent artists Abul Barq Alvi and Mahmudul Haque were present as special guests on Thursday.
The exhibition will remain open from 3:00pm to 8:00pm till March 23.
