Dalim Kumaar premiered
Kgroup Natya Kendra, on the occasion of its 19th founding anniversary, organised a three-day theatre festival at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from Friday.
On the first day of the programme, the play ‘Dalim Kumaar’, directed by Yusuf Hassan Arko and scripted by Shuvashis Sinha was premiered. It was Arko’s debut direction.
Natya Kendra’s principal secretary Tarik Anam said, ‘We have been praised by the audience and during this celebration we will present Dalim Kumaar, our 10th production adapted from a traditional fairytale.’
In the play, Dalim Kumaar born into a peasant family, possesses magical power. He is brave and stout and always protests unjust in society.
In the second half of the play, he comes to a strange city where people are heartless. He discovers a princess lying on her bed and rescues her from the clutches of notorious magician and devil.
‘The first half of the play fails to draw much attention of the audience because of the slow pace of the drama, but the second part is good,’ said Abdul Kalam, an audience.
The second part of the drama depicts a city and its people who are very modern. Here the influences of globalism, modernism, mobile phone and language have been ridiculed to some extent.
‘Actually, we have tried to portray the degradation of moral values and for this we have included some incidents closely related to modernism. I admit that the plot of the first half of the drama was loose, but I don’t think that the second half so,’ said the director of the play.
After staging the play four to five times, the quality will improve, he added.
The play ‘Pratiswaran’, scripted and directed by Toukir Ahmed, was staged on Saturday, the second day of the festival.
The organisers will stage the drama ‘Araj Charitamrita’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the academy at 7:30pm today. The play is scripted by Masum Reza and directed by Tarik Anam Khan.
