Three namaz-e-janazas of veteran BNP leader and former finance minister M Saifur Rahman, who died on Saturday in a car crash, were held in Dhaka yesterday where Ministers, Politicians, Professionals and thousands of followers paid their last homage.
They also offered special prayers for peace of the departed soul of Saifur Rahman.
His first janaza was held at Azad mosque at Gulshan where former President AQM Badrudduza Chowdhury, former advisor of caretaker government Barrister Mainul Hosein, eminent lawyer Barrister Rafiqul Hoque, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Salehuddin Ahmed, Acting General Secretary of Awami League Mahbubul Haque Hanif, Jamaat ammer Matiur Rahman Nizami, FBCCI president Anisul Haque, Professor Rehman Sobhan, among others, were present.
The second janaza of Saifur Rahman was held at Naya Paltan in front of the BNP central office conducted by Ulama Dal president Abdul Malek.
Former President Abdur Rahman Bishwas, BNP Secretary General Khondakar Delwar Hossain, standing committee members Khandakar Mahbubuddin Ahmed, Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, vice president Altaf Hossain, joint secretary general Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas and Abdullah Al Noman and BNP leader Mirza Fakrul Islalm, Rafiqul Islam Mian, Giasuddin Qader Chowdhury, Fazlul Haque Milon, Barkat Ullah Bulu Mp and late Saifur Rahman’s son Naser Rahman, among others, who took part in the janaza.
Earlier, the body was brought to Paltan at 12:10 pm from Gulshan. On hearing the news, thousands of people gathered in front of the party office to pay homage to the leader for the last time.
BNP and its front organisations paid tribute placing floral wreaths on the coffin of the former minister.
The third janaza was held at south plaza of Sangshad Bhaban.
Speaker Advocate Abdul Hamid and Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali, Chief Whip vice principal Abdus Shaheed, state minister for home affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, Finance Minister AMA Muhit, Industries Minister Dilip Barua, City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, Salahuddin Qader Chowdhury MP, former finance adviser Mirza Azizul Isam and other MPs and political leaders were present.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Moulvibazar on Monday.

Condolence of the tragic death of former finance minister and veteran leader of BNP M Saifur Rahman continued yesterday evening.
Different social, political, economic, human rights and cultural organisations expressed deep shock at his death.
M Saifur Rahman died in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ashuganj on Saturday.
Leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in a statement expressed condolence at the death of the veteran leader yesterday. They prayed for peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The leaders said FBCCI would remember the politician and economist as greatest organiser of the private sector.
Bangladesh Youth Journalist Forum (BYJF) in a statement also condoled the sudden death of Saifur Rahman and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
Chairman and Secretary General of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC) Justice AKM Sadeque and Dr Sariful Dildar expressed profound shock at the death of the former finance minister and prayed for peace of his departed soul.
Condoling the death of the longest serving finance minister, a total of 11 organisations in a joint statement said the people of the country would never forget his great contribution to the national economy.
The organisations are Zia Sena, Sacheton Jubo Samaj, Bangladesh Cultural Academy, Bangladesh Cultural Parishad, Art Foundation, Narsingdi Human Development Foundation, Zia Nagorik Forum, Bangladesh Jatiyabadi Muktijudhha Prajanmo, Dhaka based Khulna Zila Jatiyatabadi Forum, among others.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal in a statement also condoled the death of the veteran leader of BNP. It will organise a condolence meeting and doa mahfil marking the death at the Bhasani auditorium at Naya Palton in the city on September 9.
Expressing deep shock at the death, President and Secretary General of Bangladesh Nezami Islam Party Maulana Md Abdur Rakib Advocate and Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami in a statement said, the country lost a prominent and experienced economist. They prayed for peace of the departed soul.
