Muggers reportedly snatched Tk 30 lakh from two officials of a garment factory in the city’s Paribagh area on Sunday afternoon. Quoting the victims, police said Moazzem, 50, director of TH Fashion located in Hatirpul drew Tk 30 lakh from Motijheel branch of Exim Bank to pay the salaries of the factory workers in the afternoon. Moazzem and Uttam Chandra, 25, accountant of the factory, while returning to their factory in a microbus a gang of five to seven muggers swooped on the microbus and took away Tk 30 lakh from them at gunpoint.
On information, police rushed to the spot and detained Moazzem, Uttam and the driver of the microbus Azizur for interrogation in connection with the incident.
No case was registered in this connection till filing of the report at about 9 pm.
Meanwhile, employees of TH Fashion demonstrated in front of the garment factory demanding payment of their salaries as they came to know about the mugging incident.
Three female workers — Rabiya, 25, Hamida, 26, and Rahima, 24, — suffered minor injuries as local hoodlums attacked them to stop the agitation.
