Unicef yesterday awarded the Meena Media Award to 32 journalists from print and electronic media for their outstanding work in promoting child rights during the last one year.
In “reporting category” of print media, Rabaya Borshe Onita of Dainik Satta Sangbad won the first prize among the under-18 contestants while Rita Bhowmik of Jugantor topped among over-18 contestants.
In “creative category”, Sumaiya Barkatullah of Jugantor and Rokeya Khatun Rubee of Kishore magazine won first prizes.
Shadman Karim and Rifayet Daiyan of Channel i, Sumona Siddique of Desh TV, Sushmita Sen of ETV, Ahad Hossain of SA TV, Golam Kibria Sarkar and Shahnaz Sharmeen of ABC Radio are among those awarded from broadcast media.
The first, second, and third award recipients of each category and age-group received Tk 50,000, Tk 25,000 and Tk 15,000 respectively along with a crest.
Hasanul Haq Inu, information minister; and Pascal Villeneuve, Unicef country representative, among others, spoke at the awarding ceremony held at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital.
Panel judges of the award are Selina Hossain, Farid Hossain, Robaet Ferdous, Fahmidul Haque, Zakir Hossain Razu, Samia Zaman, Ratan Paul and Qadir Kollol.
