The deceased were identified as Sultan Ahmed, 55, the owner of the house at Deadanga village under Bhurungamari upazila, his wife Hazera Begum, 45, and granddaughters Romana Begum, 14, and Anika, 7. The only other member of the family, Sultana’s granddaughter Mousumi, 16, was also chopped and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
No other resided at the house.
Sultan’s nephew Moinul Islam, who resides at a nearby house, said that locals spotted the bodies in the morning and informed the police.
Injured Mousumi, a Secondary School Certificate examinee, was found unconscious. Locals rushed her to the RMCH.
Local union parishad member Abdur Rashid told New Age that Sultan had some land in Indian Territory. There was enmity with some Indian people over the land.
Moinul said that they suspected that it was a planned killing. He, however, did not suspect any specific
person.
