A Chittagong court on Sunday sentenced four people to death and five others to life-term
imprisonment for killing a woman.
The 3rd additional district and session Judge Laa Mong also fined each of the convicts sentenced to life term imprisonment Tk 40,000, in default, one year more in jail.
The court, however, acquainted four people.
The convicts sentenced to death were identified as Abu Mokkaram, Shah Alam, Johura Khatun, and Shahidul Islam while the life-term awarded were Mohammed Arif, Mintu Dash, Yunus, Saiful Islam, and Jahangir Alam.
Of them Arif, Jahangir and Younus are absconding while the rests are behind the bars.
According to case story, the miscreants strangled Chaman Ara, 58, mother of additional public prosecutor Nazrul Islam, near the BGC Trust University at Chandanaish upazila under the district on November 10 in 2009.
On information, the police recovered the body the following day when her son Nazrul filed a case accusing seven people with the Chandanish police station.
Criminal Investigation Department of police submitted a charge-sheet accusing 13 people in the case on August 7 in 2010 while the court firmed charge on October 18.
