Initiated by Ars Cultura, a french non-profit organisation for the emergence of artistic talents in the developing countries , in association with the Alliance Française de Dhaka and the Embassy of France in Bangladesh, the JP’s Prize for Contemporary Photography Competition aims to find new talented photographers in the developing countries, starting with Bangladesh.
The project is supported by internationally renowned Bangladeshi artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, who also helped start the project through the competition in Bangladesh.
It will be organised biannually,’ the organisers said.
The awards giving ceremony of the first edition jointly organised by the French embassy, Alliance Française de Dhaka and Ars Cultura was held in the Café la Veranda of AFD on Friday.
French ambassador Michel Trinquier and director of AFD Olivier Litvine distributed the awards to the winners on Friday. The scheduled chief guest Jean Philippe Pernot, a French photographer and also the founder of the prize, was not present at the ceremony, which delayed for two days for unavoidable circumstances.
His recoded speech praising the young photographers in Dhaka was projected.
Pernot, however, was present as a jury, along with artist Nissar Hossain and Olivier Litvine, which selected the winners on March 22.
Following the award giving ceremony a group photographic exhibition titled ‘Portraits’ presenting 40 best works from the winners and other candidates was launched. The candidates were invited to express their potential in one of these following categories: Artistic Creation and Documentary.
The exhibition will be open to all until Saturday in La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka.
