Bangladesh Ansar managed all five gold medals in the table tennis event of the eighth Bangladesh Games on Tuesday with Hasib and Shoma taking the men’s and women’s singles respectively.
In the last day of this discipline, Shoma of Ansar beat her teammate Rumi by 4-0 in the women’s singles event while Turbina of Rangpur and Sinthy of Ansar jointlywon the bronze medal.
In the men’s singles final, Hasib of Ansar thrashed Chittagong’s Helmat by 4-1 to confirm the gold medal and Manosh of Chittagong and Mahbub of Ansar managed the bronze medal.
In athletics, the country’s best hurdler Sumita Rani of Bangladesh Jail retained the 100m hurdles gold while BKSP youngster Zakia Sultana Subarna claimed the 400m sprint gold medal by overcoming national holder Rowshan Ara Putul of BJMC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Rani, who made the 100m hurdles event her own in the last decade, was suffering from uncertainty before the eighth Bangladesh Games got underway due to a muscle injury.
But she proved again that she was the queen of the hurdles event when she touched the finish line in 15.26 seconds, ahead of other seven competitors in the second day of the athletics discipline.
Jesmin Akter of Bangladesh Ansar concluded her run in 15.33 seconds while BJMC’s Mukta Khatun confirmed the bronze medal in 16.43 seconds.
Rani’s long journey began in 2003 when she won the first gold medal in the women’s hurdles event. She missed the 2008 summer meet due to injury while in the 2009 national meet, she finished ahead of Jesmin Akter to claim the title.

Zakia Sultana, the only record holder of the Games in the last two days, also earned the gold medal in the 400m sprint and is eyeing today’s 100m sprint.
In the last national meet, Subarna finished behind Rowshan Ara Putul but this time she went ahead of Putul in 59.26 seconds while Putul ended her run in one minute and 88 seconds. Sushmita Ghosh of BJMC won the bronze medal in one minute and 11 seconds.
In the men’s 400m event, Maruf Hossain of Bangladesh Army obtained the gold medal in 48.65 seconds while BKSP’s Mahbubul Alam had to be satisfied with a silver and his teammate Chanchal Ahmed finished third to claim bronze.
In the women’s discus throw, Jochna Afroz of BJMC conceded a defeat to youngster Zafrin Akter of BKSP who wrote her name in the record books for the first time. Zafrin covered a distance of 35.99m to confirm the gold while Jochna covered 33.32m and won the silver while Shahin Azad of BJMC attained the bronze medal.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Masuk Khan of BJMC regained top place with a 14.76-second finish while Asadul Islam of Border Guard Bangladesh won silver. Bangladesh Army’s Mojibor Rahman got the bronze medal.
In the troublesome final of the women’s kabaddi, BJMC received the gold medal with a 19-16 win over Bangladesh Ansar while Munshiganj won the bronze medal by beating Rajshahi in the third-placed match.
BJMC claimed gold in the men’s gymnastics event after scoring 213.40 points at the National Sports Council Gymnasium. Bangladesh Ansar finished second with a score of 201.20 while the bronze went to BKSP, who scored 167.40 points.
