At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Munshiganj and Brahmanbaria districts early yesterday.
Our correspondent from Munshiganj reports : Three people were killed as a bus rammed into a village market on Dhaka-Maowa highway at Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Fazlur Rahman, 55, Jasim, 30 of Kazirpagla village and Hridoy, 50, of Medinimondol village in Louhajang upazila of the district.
Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station, said the accident took place when driver of a Dhaka-bound bus lost his control over the steering and plowed through a crowd at Dogachi Bazaar of the area.
Following the accident, two people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Police seized the bus but the driver managed to escape.
Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria adds: A woman and her minor daughter were killed under the wheels of a bus while they were crossing Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Khariala village under Ashuganj upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Salma Begum, 30, and her 11-month-old daughter Babuni of Puthai village under Ashuganj upazila of the district.
According to eyewitness the accident occurred when Salma Begum along with her minor daughter was crossing the highway, a Dhaka-bound speedy bus knocked them down on the road and injured them seriously.
They were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital in critical condition where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were sent to morgue of Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
