The authorities of the Sylhet education board, which has the highest pass rate in the Higher Secondary Certificate examination this year, has decided to take punitive step against five colleges for their poor results in the examination. The board authorities already have served show-cause notices to the authorities of the five institutions asking them to explain within a week after issuance of the notice why punitive action would not be taken against them, official sources said.
In the previous year, the authorities of a number of colleges and collegiate schools had also been warned that punitive step would be taken against them, if they failed to achieve combined pass rate at least at 50 per cent in the following HSC examination, the sources said.
The five educational institutions, more than 50 per cent of the HSC examinees of which institutions failed this year, are Chartered College of Kazitula in Sylhet city, Syed Shah Mostafa College in Moulvibazar, Dharmapasha College and Sunamganj Puro College in Sunamganj and Aushkandi Rashidia Public School and College in Habiganj.
Being contacted, Sylhet education board controller of examination Abdul Mannan Khan confirmed the news of serving show-cause notices against five institutions.
‘Academic affiliation of these educational institutions would be suspended and steps would be taken to exclude the names from the government list of monthly pay order, if the institutions fail to give satisfactory reply to the notices,’ he added.
