At least six persons received severe injuries when an explosion with big bang blown off roof of a tin-shed mess at Masdair in Fatulla early yesterday.
Members of different agencies started investigation just after the incident. Police recovered some religious books, ID cards and some evidences from the spot.
A team of DB’s bomb disposal unit had been conducting massive search to find out any clue behind the explosion till the time of filing this report at about 7:30 pm on Monday.
Locals suspected that it was an act of militants who had been using the house as a hideout of a militant outfit.
But Fatullah police refuted the allegation saying that they did not get any such evidence
Police preliminary suspected that gas leakage might be a cause of the explosion.
A senior police official said, ‘we did not get any evidence about bomb explosion. We even did not find any splinter or part of explosive device despite repeated search’.
Earlier, Police Super Biswas Afzal Hossain suspected that Hossain, one of the injured might be connected with militants.
The injured including three siblings were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) immediately. They were all admitted to the Burn Unit in critical conditions.
The injured were identified as Hossain, Jalal alias Kamal and Ibrahim Jewel, Bachhu and Salahuddin Howlader living in a mess.
Local sources said the explosion occurred at about 3 am shocking the area and causing panic among the residents.
Abdul Khaleq Sikder rented out 16 rooms constructed in rows near Gabtali Natun bazaar.
It is suspected that the explosion was caused in room numbers 15 where three brothers were staying.
The roof of room 15 and adjacent 13 and 14 were blown off. It also caused fire in the rooms which was extinguished by the neighbours. Hossain, Jalal and Ibrahim, are sons of Shahiduzzaman, hailed from Banchharampur in Brahmanbaria district. Two of them working in Shovan Garments were living in the room for the last one and a half years. Hossain joined them about 45 days ago. Initial information said he was a madrasa student.
Jewel, Bachhu and Salahuddin living in the next rooms are sanitary and rod labourer.
