The operation of six international gateway (IGW) service providers will be suspended if they fail to pay their outstanding duties amounting to about Tk 300 crore to the BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) by today. The companies include Mos 5, SM Communication, Firstcom and Sigma Telecom. BTRC?director Colonel Zakir Hossain told The Independent that they would suspend the operations of the six companies if they fail to pay their outstanding duties by Tuesday.
Telecommunications Minister Rashed Khan Menon said on Sunday that cancellation of licences of two IGW operators was under process.
Earlier, the BTRC?blocked operation of six IGW operators — Ratul Telecom, Telex, Vision, Apple, K telecom and Best tec — as they failed to pay their outstanding duties amounting to Tk 300 crore to the BTRC.
There are 28 IGW companies, of which 24 got the licences last year.
