Six people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhawal National Park area here yesterday morning.
Four of the deceased were identified as bus driver Kawsar Mia and passenger Jamir Ali, from Gazipur Sadar upazila, Ariful Islam, from Sonatala upazila of Bogra, and garment worker Shamim, from Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj.
Sources of Nawjor highway police outpost said the accident took place in front of the park’s gate no. 4 when the Mymensingh-bound truck crashed head-on with the Gazipur city-bound bus around 7:45am.
Four passengers of the bus were killed on the spot and 12 others injured in the accident.
Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries after they were admitted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital. In the afternoon, seven of the injured were referred to different hospitals in the capital.
Police seized the truck, but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene.
