60 rescued
4 brokers arrested
Police at a bus terminal in Chittagong yesterday rescued 60 people and arrested four suspected human traffickers in connection with trying to send them to Malaysia illegally.
The suspected human traffickers are identified as Sohel Rana, 25, Md Ridwan, 28, Md Anwar, 22, and Mir Kashem Ali, 25, said police, adding that all the detained hailed from Cox’s Bazar.
Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Md Alauddin of Chandgaon police said the human traffickers had brought the jobseekers from different districts including Rajshahi and
Jessore. They were waiting to board a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus at Bahaddarhat Bus Terminal.
On information, police conducted a drive on the terminal around 2:30am and detained them, said the ASI. He added the human traffickers during primary interrogation had
admitted that they were heading for Teknaf to board a trawler.
