A total of 62 nomination papers were submitted on Sunday for 28 posts in the forthcoming election of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation.
None of the two panels, backed by Mohammedan and Abahani, could finalise their candidates and so some of the candidates submitted nomination papers for more than one posts.
A total of 20 organisers submitted 25 nomination papers from the Mohammedan-Mariner backed panel against the total posts of 28 while their rivals Abahani panel submitted 37 nomination papers for the June 27 election.
Mariner councillor Shafiullah Al Munir submitted his nomination for the general secretary post with Sajed Adel of Mohammedan and Shamsul Bari of Ajax Club and Pratap Sankar
Hazra of Dhaka division being the vice-president candidates from this panel.
Two joint secretary candidates of this panel are Mir Monwar Ali and Raisuddin Ahmed Babu and treasurer candidate is Sultan Uddin.
Abahani panel will be led by Khaja Rahmatullah with Abdus Sadek, Mirza Farid Ahmed, Sabbir Yusuf, Abdur Rashid Shikder, Syed Mostak Ali and Jumman Lusai all vying for five vice-president posts.
Anvir Adel Khan and Mohammed Yusuf Ali are two joint secretary candidates from this panel alongside Kazi Moinuzzaman Pila who is treasurer candidate.
Shafiullah, who is leading the Mohammedan-Mariner panel, expressed his hope of a landslide victory.
‘If I can win the election, I will run the federation professionally,’ said Shafiullah.
On the other hand, the Abahani-backed panel submitted 37 nomination papers where 15 former national players are involved.
‘If we can win the election, we will work together with the organisers,’ said Rahmatullah.
A total of 71 councilors will elect five vice presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, one treasurer and 19 members.
The president and two more executive members will be nominated by the government.
