Seven people were killed in 12 days in Rajshahi which panicked the city dwellers.
People alleged that the law and order was deteriorating and crimes such as killing, mugging and extortion were on the increase every day as the law enforcement agencies are not active enough to check crimes.
They urged to the law enforcement agencies to intensify their dries against crimes. They also sought intervention of the home minister and the state minister for home in this regard.
Khondakar Hasan Kabir, general secretary of the Rajshahi city chapter of the Hotel Owners’ Association, told New Age that after the killing of Aminul Haque, owner of Hotel Haque International, they were living with anxiety.
He also said that he would send an application to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner on befall of hotel owners seeking security of businessmen.
Ruhul Amin Pramanik, a retired teacher and also president of the Rajshahi Writers Council, told New Age, `Law and order is deteriorating and we are panicked,’ he added.
Jamat Khan, general secretary of Rajshahi Rakkha Sangram Parishad, told New Age that the law enforcements agencies should more be more active in keeping law and order.
The deputy commissioner, Delowar Bakth, also chief of the district law and order committee, said they would discuss the matter at the next committee meeting.
Sources said that on Friday, the Rapid Action Battalion found 24-year-old businessman Mahbub Alam Rasel dead on the Rajshahi Medical College campus who was abducted 18 days ago from Natore. He was an inhabitant of Abdulpur at Lalpur in the district.
On April1 4, the police found a man dead in Hotel Alnur at Lakshmibazar in the city. The diseased was Sihabul Hossain, 26, of Katchuamara at Bheramara in Kushtia.
The police on the day found a betel leaf trader dead by a road at Meherchandi, near the University of Rajshahi. The diseased was Abul Kashem, of Meherchandi.
On April 15, the police found 20-year-old Sabbir Hossain dead in the River Padma. He was son of Amirul Islam, of Dashmari in the city.
The Motihar police officer-in-charge, Rabiul Islam, said that Sabbir had drowned in the river. But his father said that that there was no chance for him to drown as the river was not deep at the place. ‘My son might have been killed.’
On April 13, the police found dead in a house a businessman, Aminul Haque, of Naodapara in the city. He was cut into several pieces. The man had gone missing three days ago.
The police also arrested two people at the house with money extorted in ransom. The diseased was Aminul Haque, of Naodapara in the city. He owned Hotel Haque International and was a building contractor.
On April 10, 65-year-old Nura was killed at Baliapukur in the city. The police arrested Suraj Ali, the prime suspect, at his house.
The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner, Mohammad Obaidullah, said that they had already arrested some people involved in the killings. ‘We are trying our best to arrest others.’
