The detective branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested seven
alleged robbers during different drives on Saturday.
The detainees are also accused of the murders of two people — driver
of a truck and his assistant on Thursday mid-night.The suspected robbers are Tajul Islam, 50, Abdul Mannan Mullah, 25, Md Babul, 40, Md Jahangir 35, Razib Khan, 30, Ismail Bepari, 30, and Moinuddin, 30.
The DB police, led by additional deputy commissioner (west) Mashiur Rahman, raided several places in the capital and arrested the seven from Agargaon and Mirpur areas.
On intelligence report, police raided the Mirpur Mazar Road area and arrested three robbers.
On their confession, police raided West Agargaon and arrested the rest four and recovered a 20-tonne-rod-laden-truck, said DMP DB joint commissioner (south) Monirul Islam at the news briefing.
He said the detained are members of a gang and there are several cases of robbery and murder against them with Dhaka and nearby police stations.
The detained killed truck driver Abdul Majid, 27, and his assistant Saidul Hossain, 30, and took away the truck while it was going to Kushtia from Chittagong on June 20, added Monirul Islam.
Savar Model Thana police said the bodies were found at Balughat on the bank of the River Turag in Bongaon union, with their hands and legs tied up and marks of stab injuries.
