Physician Killing In Khulna
72-hr given for arrest of killer
Physicians at a rally in Khulna on Thursday gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the law enforcement agencies to arrest the killer of physician Gouranga Das.
If otherwise, they warned that they would launch tougher agitation programmes from a general meeting to be held on November 26. The physicians had been observing two-hour work abstention since November 19.
The rally, under the banner of Khulna unit of Bangladesh Medical Association at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city, was organised protesting at the killing of Gouranga and demanding immediate arrest of his killer.
Presided over by BMA central vice-president Baharul Alam, the rally was also addressed by Khulna Medical College vice-principal Dhiraj Mohan Biswas and physicians Paritosh Kumar Kundu, Md Mohsin and Banga Kamal Basu, among others.
Following the rally, the physicians submitted a memorandum to the Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner, demanding arrest of Gouranga’s killer and seeking security of life and properties of physicians in Khulna.
Gouranga, a life member of BMA and also the owner of Moitree Nursing Home at Phulbarigate in Khulna city, was hacked to death allegedly by his nursing home’s sacked manager Md Rasel Dhali in his chamber on November 17 afternoon.
