BNP-led four-party alliance MPs is going to take oath today at 4:00 pm at the Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban. The outgoing speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar would officiate the oath taking ceremony.
All preparations have been completed for conducting the oath, Speaker office sources said.
Talking to the New Nation senior leaders of BNP, Jamaat and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) said from the inaugural session of the 9 th parliament the MPs belonging to the alliance would play a constructive role in the house to bring the politics of tolerance and accommodation by burying unhealthy politics and agitation.
Meanwhile MPs elect from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e- Islami and BJP are now in the city for taking oath today.
When asked on today’s oath, a senior leader of BNP said the 30 elect MPs of the party are now staying in the capital. They were given all necessary tips regarding taking oath.
Meanwhile talking to a private TV channel yesterday former whip of BNP Advocate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar said BNP would play a constructive role in the 9th parliament.
“We would not follow the destructive politics of the then opposition during our rule. We promise to play concrete role in the parliament for upholding the democratic spirit and progress,” he mentioned.
On the issue of trial of war criminals, which the Awami League led grand alliance has promised in their election manifesto, the former lawmaker of BNP said ‘It was a political tactic’.
“It was the politics of the grand alliance,” he mentioned adding that holding trial of war criminals may not be possible on different qrounds.
“Let us see what they take in the future regarding the issue,” he added.
It may be mentioned that MPs belonging to the four-party were supposed to take oath on January 14. But it has been changed following the letter sent to the Speaker from BNP to shift it today.
In the just concluded elections BNP has bagged only 30, jammat 2 and BJP 1 that totalling 33.
