Dhaka stocks finished lower on Wednesday as investors, downcast by the recent dullness at the market, scurried to sell off their holdings, market operators said.
The general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange lost 13.62 points, or 0.50 per cent, to close at 2712.66, while its blue chips index, DSE20, shed 4.20 points, or 0.19 per cent, to finish at 2218.41.
A DSE stockbroker said the market witnessed a selling pressure from investors, especially from retailers. The downtrend at the market for since the last week has dampened the investors’ mood, he said.
Before the recent bear run, the market had been in a bull run for a couple of weeks thanks to an increased participation of investors after a two-and-a-half-month lull.
Of the total 248 issues traded on Wednesday, 101 advanced, 131 declined, and 16 remained unchanged.
Turnover at the DSE dropped to Tk 322.46 crore from the Tuesday’s Tk 392.66 crore.
