Rajshahi University (RU) journalists have demanded an exemplary punishment to the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) cadres who severely beat up two journalists on the campus on Thursday.
They met Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton at the city office of Awami League and placed the demand before him yesterday.
At least 10 students including the two journalists were injured seriously in a clash between two factions of BCL over establishing supremacy on the campus on Thursday.
MA Jahid, RU Correspondent of The News Today and Sayem Sabu, RU Correspondent of The Daily Jugantar were injured severely when BCL cadres attacked them with iron rods and pipe. At that time, the journalists were performing their professional duties.
RCC Mayor gave them a patient hearing and assured them necessary action against the culprits.
Among others, RU unit BCL president Ibrahim Hossain Moon, joint secretary Azim-Bin-Kamal, Masud and Mamun were present during the visit.
Earlier, a memorandum was submitted to acting vice chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat at his office on Thursday containing the same demand.
Progressive Teachers’ Society (PTS), Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Chhatra League of JSD, Progressive Students’ Alliance and different organisations also condemned the attack and demanded punishment to the culprits.
