The 34th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be observed across the country today with due respect.
Nazrul, who enriched the Bangla literature with his genius, died on Bhadro 12 of Bangla calendar (August 29, 1976) at the age of 77.
Nazrul, popularly called rebel poet, had inspired people to raise their voice against tyranny and injustice during the British rule. He made the British feel so insecure that they imprisoned him several times.
His poetry and songs were passionate enough to instill patriotism and cravings for independence in the hearts of the freedom-fighters during the liberation war in 1971.
Different socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to honour and recall the memories of the “Bidrohi Kobi”.
Students, teachers and employees of Dhaka University led by Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, will place wreaths and offer Fateha at the mazar of the poet at 8:00am today followed by a discussion at the mazar premises.
Nazrul Institute has organised a discussion to be followed by a cultural programme at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of National Museum at 4:00pm.
Chhayanaut will also hold a programme at its Bhaban at 10:30am to mark the day.
