Mobile operator Citycell introduced ultraSMART, the latest in its mobile broadband packages, in the local market yesterday.
The company’s new product among the Zoom broadband internet services is capable of offering voice, data and SMS services facility through one single handset at the same time, its officials said.
The offer was formally unveiled through a formal launching ceremony held at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
Citycell Chief Executive Officer Mehboob Chowdhury along with Chief Marketing Officer Kafil H S Muyeed and Chief Operating Officer David Lee unveiled the product.
Chowdhury said, “As a pioneer in mobile broadband technology in Bangladesh, Citycell now boasts around 100 thousand subscribers, who are now using our Zoom Internet service”.
He also called the local mobile and web content developers to produce applications that cater to the need of the local internet users.
“Bangladeshi content developers should come up with applications that meet demands of the local business and agriculture,” he said.
Underlining the importance of increased mobile and internet penetration in the country, Chowdhury said, “Studies show that by the year 2020, 2.6 percent of Bangladesh’s GDP growth would come from the increase in usage of broadband internet”.
“This could also potentially mean one percent growth in our trade and business activities while creating employment opportunities for 130,000 people”, he added.
The Citycell CEO also noted that 60 percent of the country’s population who are aged below 30 would be fast to catch up the growth in the state-of-the-art technology.
The ‘ultraSMART’ comes with two different post-paid plans.
The first plan includes 150 minutes of voice, 100 SMS and 500 MB data usage at 150 kbps speed with a monthly subscription fee of Tk 299.
The other plan comes with 200 minutes of voice services, 100 SMS and 500 MB data usage at 300 kbps speed with a subscription fee of Tk 499 a month.
Citycell subscribers can experience the ultraSmart package in two mobile handsets — Huawei C5700, which enables users to browse the web using Opera Mini, and Huaweii C8100, a touch screen mobile phone with internet explorer facility.
