Speakers at a discussion in Sylhet on Thursday called for a concerted action against the harassment of girls in society.
They made the demand in a discussion on harassment of girls organised by the District Information Office on the city’s Central Shaheed Minar premises at 11:00pm.
Speakers said the people from all walks of life should raise their voice against such inhuman activities and urged the countrymen to take a clear stand against sexual harassment of girls in the society.
Sylhet additional deputy commissioner Shahidul Alam joined the discussion as the chief guest while Sylhet Information Office deputy director Julia Jasmine Mili chaired the session.
The programme was also addressed, among others, by District Woman Affairs official Rajia Begum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy district coordinator Mahbuzzaman Chowdhury, Grameen Janakalyan Sangsad executive director Jamil Chowdhury, journalist Samarendra Dash and Aftab Chowdhury.
Earlier a procession, led by the deputy commissioner ASM Abul Hashim, was brought out in the city from his office on Thursday morning.
The procession ended on the Central Shaheed Minar premises after parading different city streets, sources in the District Information Office said.
