Bangladesh athletes as usual produced below-par performances in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Thursday.
Bangladesh shooters Sabrina Sultana and Sharmin Shilpa were far off from their best when it was most required as Sabrina scored 558 to finish 15th among 17 shooters in the singles event of 50m rifle three positions. Shilpa was placed 17th with a paltry score of 552.
In swimming, Dolly Akhter clocked 30.46 seconds to finish fourth in heat No 2 of 50m freestyle. The heat was won by Don Kaluarachchilage of Sri Lanka who timed 29.55sec. Md Shahjahan Ali participated in the 50m breaststroke heat and clocked 31.36sec to finish fifth among eight swimmers. The event was won by Daniel Sliwinski of England who qualified for the final with a timing of 28.47sec.
