Activists of left-leaning student organisation Samajtantrik Chhatra Front on Tuesday made a call to be united against privatisation of education and to save natural resources of the country from the imperialists.
They made the call, marking the fourteenth central council of the organisation
Presiding over the gathering, Fakhuruddin Ahmed, former president of the central committee of the organisation, said, ‘Public universities are losing their character of providing education for the meritorious students free of cost.
The authorities should not collect extra fees from the students to increase its income by conducting evening courses.
The organisation’s former general secretary, Janardan Dutta Nantu, urged the students to come forward to stop commercialisation of education.
He also demanded that the move of the university authorities to start evening courses should be stopped immediately as it would make higher education accessible only for the rich and urban students.
Mehedi Hasan Tomal, former organising secretary of the organisation, complained that in the name of solving the existing power crisis, the government is making deals to procure electricity at a higher rate.
Others also condemned BCL men’s atrocities on several university campuses.
Earlier members of the central committee of Dhaka city unit of the organisation brought out a procession on the campus and it ended at the base of Aparajeya Bangla.
