Rajshahi University (RU) is going to introduce digital identity cards (ID) for its teachers, students and staff from October 19 for ensuring security on the campus.
RU administration sources said the university authorities decided to introduce the digital identity card system to check outsiders on the campus to avert any untoward situation.
Prof Mamunur Rashid Talukder, convener of the digital identity card implementation project, said they will start processing of the digital identity cards from October 19.
“At the first phase of the pilot project, we will serve the digital identity cards first to the officers and employees of the university administration building within October 21,” said Talukder, also the administrator of RU computer centre.
The authorities will collect photographs and other information of the teachers, students and staff for the identity cards, said the administration sources.
The project will be inaugurated at the Computer Science and Engineering department on the campus on October 19.
