The second WECCA Beach Cricket, hosted by the Weekend Cricket Club Association, will begin on the Cox’s Bazar beach on November 28, the organisers said at a briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Thirteen teams, composed of former national players, Premiere League, First Division and amateur cricket players, in the three-day event, jointly sponsored by the AB Bank and Citycell.
The participating team are Aamra, Cavaliers, Commonwealth Cricket Club, Cricketeers, Friends United Cricket Club, Gladiator, G-Team, Josephite Warriors, Millennium Cricket Club, Partex, Ramblers Sporting Club, Renegades and Royals.
Satellite television channel Desh TV will air the matches live.
The information minister, Abul Kalam Azad, will attend the opening ceremony and the civil aviation and tourism minister GM Kader will attend the closing ceremony, the organisers said.
The organisers and sponsors of the tournament hoped this modern cricket would inspire people to participate in this sport more and will promote the
world’s longest beach in Cox’s Bazar.
The WECCA president, Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, AB Bank president and managing director Kaizer A Chowdhury, Citycell chief marketing officer Kafil HS Muid and Desh TV managing director Asaduzzaman Noor, among others, attended the briefing at the Sheraton Hotel.
