A combined MBBS admission tests both for private and public medical colleges are going to be held for the first time on Friday to ensure the minimum standard of the physicians.
Candidates will get their seat planning from the website –– http://www.dghs.gov.bd/.
“From this academic year, we are going to take the admission tests both for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) for public-private jointly, to ensure the minimum standard of the physicians,” said Prof Khandaker Shefayet Ullah, director of Medical Education of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Earlier, people having money can get chance to admit their children at the private medical colleges without having minimum educational qualifications, he added.
Up to eight candidates will compete for each of the 5,859 MBBS seats, following the one-hour long admission tests started from 10:00am, available for the 2010-11 academic session at public and private medical colleges throughout the country.
The first 2,509 successful candidates would be admitted to the 18 public medical colleges for the MBBS degree while the remaining 3,350 successful candidates would go to 43 private medical colleges, the DGHS director added.
A total of 20 MBBS seats are reserved for indigenous students, 80 foreign students and two percent of total seats are for the children of freedom fighters, he said.
Meanwhile, admission seekers at dental medical colleges are requested to collect their admission forms from the three public and 12 private dental medical colleges from October 23 to November 4, said Prof Shefayet Ullah.
The admission test of the BDS course will be held on December 3, he said. There are 210 seats at three public dental college and 770 at 12 private medical colleges.
Results will be announced within a week and it will be available at the DGHS website. Moreover, the candidates can get their results through mobile phones, health ministry officials said.
