A mob yesterday beat up three persons who allegedly raped a housewife in Gudaraghat slum area under Mirpur-13 in the capital early hours Thursday.
The accused — Shahid, Al Amin, and Abul Hossain — were handed over to Kafrul police station yesterday while one of their accomplices named Tareq fled the area.
Shahid is a security guard and Al Amin is manager of the slum. Abul Hossain is a small vendor while Tareq is a vagabond in the slum, said police.
Quoting the victim, aged around 30 and a garment worker, Inspector Abdur Rashid of Kafrul police station said the group stormed into the victim’s residence at around 1:00am on Thursday. They tied her husband to an adjacent playground and beat him up severely.
Shahid and Al Amin stayed there while Abul Hossain and Tareq dragged the victim to an empty place nearby and raped her and left the area at around 4:00am, the inspector said.
He also said the victim then rescued her husband and went to Tangail.
The victim returned to the slum yesterday and identified the alleged rapists. Locals then beat them up and handed over to police.
Inspector Abdur Rashid claimed that the arrestees confessed to their guilt.
The victim along with her husband, a street vendor, came to the slum on November 1.
