The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has recommended taking necessary steps to permanently shut down all the telegraph offices of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL).
The central telegraph office of Dhaka had earned about Tk 2 crore while the expenditure was about Tk 30 crore in the time span.
As per ACC’s investigation it is found with the rapid growth of mobile telephone, telegraph activities is about to vanish from 1999. Moreover, government had incurred huge amount of loss for this about extinct service Hanif Iqbal, Director General (DG) of ACC.
He said this while addressing the regular press briefing yesterday at its office.
ACC has examined all the documents of of Dhaka, Khulna and Chittagong branches and offices.
Govt expended about tk 30 crore of which Tk 87 lakh was drawn in the name of office contingency through abusing power. Though there was Tk 82.87 lakh allocation for electricity, Tk 83.70 lakh was expended. But only Tk 6.52 lakh was expended for electricity service in real. The left Tk 77.17 lakh was looted in various ways he said.
Considering all the matter ACC recommended to closedown all the offices of the telegraph he added.
